Ranking/Tournament Operations

 

Olympic and World Championship Tourneys

·                    Will consist of 30 teams in 6 pools of 5 teams each (16 auto-qualifiers from previous Olympics/World Championships and the next 14 highest rated nations, including the most recent qualifying championship winner regardless of that nation’s ranking)

·                    Top two in each pool after round-robin as well as 4 wild-cards advance to medal round (single game, knock out bracket)

·                    The 16 teams which make the medal round automatically qualify for the next Olympics or World Championships

·                    Pool winners will be seeded 1-6, runners-up 7-12 and wild cards 13-16 for the medal round

·                    Points toward CSHIHF rankings are earned as follows:

o      Make the tourney – 15 points

o      Win Pool – 7 points

o      2nd in Pool – 5 points

o      Wild-card – 3 points

o      Win 1st medal round game – 3 points

o      Win 2nd medal round game – 5 points

o      Win 3rd medal round game – 8 points

o      Lose Bronze game – 9 points

o      Win Bronze medal – 11 points

o      Win Sliver medal – 13 points

o      Win Gold medal 15 points

 

 

Qualifying Tourneys

·                    Will consist of the 32 teams not automatically qualified for upcoming Olympics/World Championship

·                    4 pools of 8 teams each

·                    Top 3 in each pool plus 4 wild cards advance to championship round

·                    Pool winners seeded 1-4, 2nd places seeded 5-8, etc…

·                    Points toward CSHIHF rankings earned as follows:

o      Teams auto-qualified for upcoming tourney get 35 points

o      Teams in qualifier receive 1 point for each point earned in pool play

o      Pool winners receive 7 points

o      2nd in pool = 5 points

o      3rd in pool = 3 points

o      Wild-card = 1 point

o      Win first round game = 2 points

o      Win second round game = 4 points

o      Win third round game = 6 points

o      Lose consolation game = 8 points

o      Win consolation game = 10 points

o      Lose championship game = 12 points

o      Win championship game = 15 points

 

 

Tie-breaker process for seeding in any tourney:  Head-to-Head (if applicable), Wins, Goal Differential, Goals Scored, Coin Toss.

 

Tie-breaker process for making an Olympics/World Championship if CSHIHF ranking points are the same:  Head-to-Head if applicable, Final place in previous qualifying tourney, Goal differential in all game of previous qualifying tourney, coin toss.
